Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Punjab Najam Ahmed Shah visited the extended block of the Children Hospital Lahore on Saturday. The Secretary visited the isolation ward, liver disease ward, HDU, cardiology, operation theaters, ICU, hematology, laundry, CSSD and other departments of the hospital. The secretary also inspected washrooms and cleanliness at the hospital.
Dean Institute of Child Health Professor Dr Masood Sadiq, Medical Director Professor Dr Ahsan Waheed Rathore and other senior officers and nursing staff were also present at this occasion.
Professor Rathore informed the secretary that there were 450 beds in the hospital, but now, by including 600 beds in the newly constructed block, the total number of beds in the hospital will rise to 1050. Professor Rathore further said that in this hospital 16 operation theaters have also been constructed due to which surgeries’ capacity has been increased threefold. He said that the Children Hospital Lahore has become the largest children hospital in the world with a capacity of 1050-bed and provides children with 23 medical and surgical specialties for their required treatment. He said that free treatment facilities are being provided to the patients in the hospital.
On this occasion, secretary enquired about the health of the patients. He also asked about the facilities being provided to them by the hospital. Some of the critical patients had been on ventilators for the last many months and their attendants told the secretary that all the required treatment facilities and medicines had been provided to them by the hospital’s administration, free of cost.
Dean Children Hospital Professor Masood Sadiq informed the secretary that a cost of Rs 20-25 thousand per day was being incurred by the hospital due to the ventilator.
Secretary said that the Chief Minister of Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is carrying the mission of providing state of the art health facilities to the people and that the Children Hospital Lahore is a glorious example of his passion. He further said that hopefully, chief minister would formally inaugurate the newly constructed block of the hospital before Ramadan.
