Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah paid a surprise visit to Jinnah Hospital Lahore on Friday. The secretary reviewed the arrangements made for the medical care and cleanliness in the emergency ward, peads emergency, pathological lab, almoner office, and the sitting arrangements for the patients in OPD. Najam Ahmed Shah also inspected cleanliness and hygienic conditions in the washrooms.
The secretary appreciated the Medical Superintendent Dr Sohail Saqlain and his team for making meticulous arrangements for patient care and maintaining cleanliness in the hospital.
Najam Ahmed Shah said, “The administration has made a difference to the arrangements at the hospital for the patients. You all have done a good job, but it is important that you remember that there is a long way to go before we make medical institutions reliable and efficient for the patients; however, a good start in the right direction by the Jinnah Hospital’s team is commendable”.
Secretary SH & ME also enquired from the patients whether they were being provided with health facilities and free medicines. The patients expressed their satisfaction over the arrangements. Secretary Health said that Jinnah Hospital is taking a lead on other hospitals in improving operational management system.
While talking to the media, he said that two billion rupees would be spent on the revamping plan of the hospital, out of which one billion rupees would be spent till December 2017 for removing infrastructural deficiencies and seepage problems.
While visiting the pathological lab, the secretary found that Senior Woman Medical Officer Dr Yasmin Cheema and WMO Dr Saira Nawaz were absent from duty. Najam Ahmed Shah took notice of the situation and issued orders for the suspension of both the officers. Secretary Health directed the Additional Secretary (Admin) Raja Mansoor to suspend the SWMO and WMO.
