- Fawad admits PTI gets funding from abroad, but fingers at PML-N, Asghar Khan case
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson Fawad Chaudhary termed the first hearing of the joint investigation team (JIT) a welcome move while regretting the decision to bar media from covering the proceedings.
“If the JIT investigation is not opened for all, we’ll reach out to the (Supreme Court) bench and can even issue call for a protest,” he said while addressing a press conference at the National Press Club. Fawad demanded that the trial of ruling family should be broadcast live.
“On one hand, we’ve been barred from speaking to media outside the Supreme Court and on the other, the rulers has taken over the Press Information Department,” he said, and used the opportunity to shed light on petition against Imran Khan and Jehangir Khan Tareen in the Supreme Court.
“Imran Khan played county cricket from 1982 to 1986 in London and earned abroad and brought his wealth back home,” he said in defence of his party chairman. He also said that property in Bani Gala was bought by the same earnings. “The cases against Imran Khan are baseless and based on ill will,” he said.
Admitting that PTI gets funding from abroad, he said that about time PML-N tells the masses from where do they get funding. “We haven’t received any notice from the Supreme Court for producing money trail,” he said. Fawad also pointed out lack of action on Asghar Khan case that revolves around funding by secret agencies to a number of politicians.
“Panama case is not a personal case of PTI but it is of the ruling party. PTI would not accept the investigation within closed room and government has to insure the transparency,” he said while commenting on the working of JIT, urging that the media should be given access to the investigation.
Fawad alleged that the prime minister used money from Osama Bin Laden to de-seat then prime minister Benazir Bhutto. Answering a query about newsleak, he asked the government to make the report public.
