Zaid Talpur’s petition for protective bail approved

A Baluchistan High Court Judge Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan has approved Zaid Talpur’s petition for protective bail which had been filed on Monday.

Talpur had been on the run after a video became viral on the social and electronic media of him sitting in the Station House Officers (SHO) seat in Umerkot’s Kunri police station with his aides surrounding the table. The police officer is seen requesting him to leave the seat but he kept refusing. Making things worse the accused made the SHO sit on the floor and apologise.

In response to the incidence, the Umarkot SSP  issued a notification that a case had been registered against six individuals – Mir Zaid Talpur, Hassan Talpur, Jamil Marwarri, Lachman Meghwarr, Kareem, and Shafi.

Following the incident, Bajwa led raids to arrest those involved and arrested Zaid Talpur’s son, Hassan, from Karachi’s Defense Housing Authority (DHA).

In response to the incidence, an another video surfaced the media on the same day of Talpur’s son being arrested and forced to apologise on a camera.

SSP Bajwa also suspended the DSP and SHO of the police station for showing weakness and distorting facts.

The Supreme Court on Friday then took suo moto notice of the incident. In addition, the Chief Justice of Pakistan demanded a report from the IG Sindh within five days over the issue and release of suspects after a brief detention.

Zaid Talpur is said to be the brother-in-law of former Sindh Chief Minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi.
