KP government establishes private school regulatory authority

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Muhammad Atif Khan said that the establishment of private school regulatory authority would reduce education expenditures of poor parents. The establishment of private school regulatory authority would help in analysing performance of the schools from all aspects.

He announced that government upgraded Mardan engineering university campus to a full university and in the upcoming budget, provincial government would allocate budget for the engineering universities.

He was addressing after taking oath in the new cabinet Mardan Press Club (MPC). Senior Journalist Musarat Khan Aasi and President MPC M Bashir Adil were also present on the occasion. Also, Chairman district development advisory committee MPA Iftikhar Ali Mashwani, Commissioner Mardan Division Zakir Hussain Afridi, Assistant commissioner Khan Muhammad, SP Investigation Shafiullah Khan Gandapur and President Traders Union Zahir Shah attended the ceremony.

Education Minister Atif Khan said that the authority would also determine minimum qualification of teaching faculty at schools, their pay structure and training, besides monitoring the performance of each private school.

He recalled that the plan was prepared by the previous government, but it was never tabled in the assembly.

Parents’ representatives, owners, government official and senior academics would be included in the in regulatory authority, he added.

He said that under the bill, an authority would be set up under the chairmanship of provincial educational minister to register and regulate the private schools, supervise the educational curriculum and fix fee structure for each school as per their category.

Education minister said that PTI-led provincial government’s educational policy was meant to ensure access of each and every child to basic and quality education across the province and for this purpose, all available resources were being utilised.

The provincial minister for education clarified that the purpose of these steps of provincial government was to improve the education system and raise the standards of living in addition to the elevation of private schools’ standards.

The minister also announced fifty lac rupees grant for the welfare of journalists and solar system for Mardan Press Club.
