KARACHI: The Civil Hospital Karachi’s (CHK) management has requested the Sindh Health secretary to withdraw memorandum of understanding (MoU) made with the Friends of Burns Centre, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), for its failure to improve patient care and allow the hospital to run the centre on its own.

A copy of the letter sent to the Sindh Health secretary stated that the Friends of Burns Centre was working in Burns Centre, CHK, since last several years, but it had failed to improve the patient care. It said the role of Friend of Burns was not in the interest of the patients; however, the hospital management had the capability to run the Centre from its available funds and resources.

“Despite many advises given to complete the required number of doctors in Burns Centre, the number of doctors have not been completed so far,” the letter said.

The letter added: “The Friends of Burns Centre is not performing as per MoU requirements. It is working for its personal interests and is showing itself as a philanthropist entity.”

“Due to this attitude, patients at Burns Centre are suffering badly as they are being ignored. The Burns Centre administration has also not fulfilled medicine requirement of the patients. The administration is not satisfied with the performance of Friends of Burns Centre,” the letter further stated.

Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) Medical Superintendent Dr Zulfiqar Ali Siyal, while talking to PPI, said a letter had been sent to the Sindh Health secretary for withdrawal of MoU with Friends of Burns Centre over its failure to fulfil doctors, medicines and other requirements of patients with burns injuries.
