KARACHI: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting on Thursday night five days to discuss the Dawn Leaks inquiry report issue, according to TV reports.

On April 29, the Prime Minister Office had issued orders to remove Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and Principal Information Officer Rao Tehseen according to the suggestions of the inquiry committee set to investigate the Dawn Leaks issue.

The directives were rejected by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) chief Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, in a tweet, saying that they were not in line with the committee’s recommendations.

On Friday night, almost every news channel reported that a meeting between the army chief and the prime minister was held on Thursday night where several issues were discussed, including the Dawn Leaks issue.

Both the parties agreed that this issue would be resolved in a manner that would be non-confrontational. Many TV channels reported that it was in fact the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who was behind this meeting. He was part of a committee formed by the PM after the directives’ issue had originally risen.

There still hasn’t been any official word on the meeting. The meeting has still not been confirmed.
