Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Thursday invited Japanese investors to get benefit from investment opportunities, as Pakistan offers great investment openings in various sectors that can be utilised by foreigners.

In a meeting with Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Nobuo Kishi, he emphasised on further enhancing trade, investment and development relationship with Japan. “Pakistan is keen to carry forward the shared vision for promoting peace, prosperity and development,” he said.

The prime minister recalled a cordial exchange with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in New York in September 2016 and reaffirmed the commitment to further strengthen bilateral relations. “Japan is an important development partner of Pakistan,” he said, adding that a number of development projects in Pakistan were completed with Japan’s assistance and support.

On the occasion, Nobuo Kishi thanked the prime minister for the warm welcome accorded to him and his delegation and expressed the hope to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Earlier, Pakistan and Japan reviewed the state of bilateral relations and the evolving peace and security scenario in their respective regions. Foreign Affairs Secretary Tehmina Janjua held delegation level meeting with Nobuo Kishi-led Japanese delegation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Japanese delegation is on a two-day visit which coincides with the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Japan. The state minister’s visit also marks the 60th anniversary of his grandfather prime minister Nobusuke Kishi’s visit to Pakistan in May 1957.

During the meeting, the foreign secretary highlighted the importance that Pakistan attached to its relations with Japan and underscored the need to further strengthen mutually beneficial economic partnership with focus on promoting trade and investments. She briefed the delegation on Pakistan’s efforts to reach out to Afghanistan and India as part of prime minister’s vision for peaceful neighbourhood.

Secretary Tehmina reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to make constructive contributions to the promotion of peace and stability in Afghanistan. She also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue with India for the resolution of all outstanding issues including the Jammu Kashmir issue, while highlighting the atrocities being committed by Indian forces against unarmed innocent civilians.

She also apprised the delegation of Pakistan’s credentials for the membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), while emphasising the need for a criteria-based and non-discriminatory approach for new members. During the visit, the Japanese state minister also witnessed an exchange of notes signing ceremony of loan agreement for the Islamabad-Burhan Line Transmission Project.
