20-year old newly-wed Nusrat Bibi has committed suicide in Shah Jamal, Muzaffargarh after a fake ‘faith healer’ allegedly raped and tortured her as part of an exorcism.
As per Shah Jamal police sources, Nusrat Bibi was a resident of Goram Bagraoun and had been recently married to Akram. According to Nusrat Bibi’s mother-in-law, Mumtaz Mai, she was possessed so she took her to a local faith healer named Qari Iqbal for an exorcism.
The police authorities further stated that Iqbal told his mother that Nusrat was under the influence of evil spirits and need spiritual healing in order for Nusrat to have a child.
The fake faith healer tortured Nusrat in the name of treatment with hot knives and rods that left her body with severe injuries.
The police further reported that Nusrat consumed poison upon her return to home. The police further claimed that the victim appeared to have been raped before the torture. A complete autopsy report is yet to be received.
Nusrat was carried to Shah Jamal District Hospital where she died. Mai claimed that she was a frequent visitor to the faith healer and that is why she took Nusrat there.
After a complaint had been lodged, the police are reported to have raided Iqbal’s workplace, but he had fled.
The police are further investigating the case.
