- Urges student to launch social movements to make city peaceful
Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Director General Major General Mohammad Saeed on Thursday appreciated the contributions of Sindh Madressatul Islam in political, social, and economic sectors through its alumni, including Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
Major General Mohammad Saeed, while addressing the Sindh Madressatul Islam University’s students and faculty here, said that the nation greatly appreciates Hassanally Effendi’s efforts for establishing this institution.
At that time there were no communication facilities available over here and Hassanally Effendi lacked financial sources also, but he established this varsity in just three years, he added.
The universities and educational institutions are powerhouses that can bring positive change in the society and in the country; therefore, students have to play their role in spreading consciousness among their parents, relatives and friends about peaceful culture in the society, he said.
The students should be the first ones to reject violent tendencies in the society, who had affected at least two generations of the city in last 40 years, he stressed.
Major General Mohammad Saeed said that the Pakistan Rangers has restored peace in the city, but the educational institutions, citizens, civil society, and communities also have to fulfil their responsibilities for durable peace in the city.
He urged the students to launch a social movement for betterment and creation of a peaceful environment in Karachi, that will be a great favour to the city and it will also make a difference in the country, he added. “No one other than you can bring change in the city; the youth have to take the lead in this respect,” he said.
Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) DG said that Vice Chancellor of SMIU had done a wonderful job at Sindh Madressatul Islam University since 1994.
Earlier, SMIU Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh thanked Major General Mohammad Saeed for visiting the varsity and addressing its students and faculty.
The vice chancellor said that the Pakistan Rangers has restored peace in the city in collaboration with police and other law enforcing agencies.
He said that the universities should work for tolerance and co-existence to defeat extremism.
