The Cecil & Iris Chaudhry Foundation (CICF) organised a protest rally at Liberty Chowk Lahore to condemn the horrific lynching of a student Mashal Khan, and also to condemn all forms of extremism and intolerance.
The protest was attended by a large number of people from various walks of life. The participants carried banners and placards to express their grief and concern about the rising incidents of injustice and vigilantism. They chanted slogans against extremism and fundamentalism, and expressed solidarity with the families who had suffered because of this.
They remembered not only Mashal, but also Shahbaz Bhatti, Salman Taseer and others who had been brutally killed by those with an intolerant mindset.
CICF, headed by Michelle Chaudhry, is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organisation dedicated to the eradication of injustice in society by advocating on behalf of the underprivileged and marginalised groups within Pakistan.
CICF president expressed her grave concern over the growing lawlessness in the country and appealed to law makers to ensure better governance and eradication of ambiguities in the judicial system which are exploited with impunity.
