International advocacy

India is making hectic efforts to become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. It has obtained a commitment from Turkey. China too is exploring quid pro quo. Our headless foreign office is acting rather like a silent spectator. We are always lethargic. Earlier, almost a week before Pakistan forwarded its case, India had submitted its formal application for 48-member Nuclear Supplier Group’s membership. India had completed homework to utilise the requested membership to export nuclear reactors and other materials to needy countries. Indian prime minister personally burnt midnight oils to get the Group to approve India’s application. Our PM then remained busy returning his courtesy calls about his health. Should we bank on China as our sole advocate?
