While speaking as a chief guest at the 8th Annual Convocation of Virtual University Pakistan(VNP) Lahore, President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain said on Tuesday that skill development in IT in the country is part and parcel of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC).
He said that the young generation of Pakistan took keen interest in the development of the IT sector in the country; this will become a catalyst in Pakistan’s journey towards prosperity.
The president said that the nationalisation policies of the past had ruined the economy, but now the government has ensured that the economy steps towards the right direction.
Presient Mamnoon Hussain lauded the services rendered by VNP for the country, where a large number of students cannot afford higher education.
The President added that the country confronted new challenges in the education sector and that more resources were required to fulfill the ever growing needs of the students.
“Its a matter of honour that this institution has been doing projects with UN for education”, the president said.
“I hope that this university would also sign memorandums of understanding with other international universities so that students could be equipped with modern skills in various fields, especially that of IT” he said.
IT has changed the whole world and this department would become more important when CPEC projects would further materialize further. However, he said that the demand for IT graduates would soar in the coming days and VNP will have to evolve into an even greater institution to cater to the needs of the time. He advised other institutions to also share the burden with VNP of creating IT experts.
He criticised the previous governments for keeping a blind eye to the deteriorating standards of education in the country and for failing to enhance the literacy rate in Pakistan.
President Mamnoon Hussain said that the only key to solving the social and economical conundrums of the youth is education.
The president, who is also the chancellor of the university, awarded gold medals and shields to students who prominent positions for various categories.
Earlier, Rector of the Virtual Varsity Naveed A.Malik highlighted the achievements of the institution and said that 6245 students including 2166 from Lahore campus were awarded degrees in different disciplines.
