In his message on the Press Freedom Day the Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said that responsible journalism is imperative for the formation of public opinion and for creating awareness among the public.
He said that free press plays a vital role in the strengthening of democracy in a country and that journalism is a noble profession through which the downtrodden masses raise their voices against injustices in the society. He added that the main objective of celebrating this day is to highlight the importance of the free press. He said that free media keeps a check on the public figures and exposes any misdemeanor on their part. He added that provision of safe environment to the journalists is one of government’s top priorities.
