The elders made the decision during a meeting with senior officials of local administration in the tribal agency.

Political Agent Abdul Amir Khattak chaired the jirga, which was attended by a score of elders of various tribes and religious leaders.

The participants showed satisfaction over the law and order situation in the agency and said that peace and normalcy have witnessed a significant improvement during the past several weeks.

On the occasion, the participants expressed a grave concern over the growing illegal business activities in the agency, adding that trade of narcotics, fake medicines and interest-based business have significantly been increased during the past couple of years owing to the absence of any check and balances.

It was decided that Rs 3 million would be imposed on those found involved in the interest-based business. They would also face up to ten years in prison, while the administration would not accept interest-based cases.
