CM Punjab said that International Labour Day revives the memory of workers in Chicago who gave their lives in a struggle for their rights, in 1886.
In his message on International Labour Day, the Chief Minister said that labourers and workers play a key role in strengthening the national economy and development cannot be achieved without giving due respect to the workers. He said that Islam has declared labourers as friends of God, acknowledging their dignity.
The more the workforce is empowered, he added, the sooner a nation achieves prosperity.
The chief minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the government is paying full attention to the welfare of the workers’ community.
He said that under the Punjab Skill Development Programme workers are given training in order for them to achieve their potential in the field. He said that 87000 children of brick kiln workers were enrolled in schools in recent times.
Shehbaz stated that establishment of quality educational institutions for the children of labourers along with social security hospitals and labour colonies are a proof of labour-friendly policies of Punjab government. “On this day, there is a need to renew the pledge that all out support would be extended for the welfare of labourers and protection of their rights,” he added.
