The man accused of shooting Mashal Khan admitted his crime before senior Civil Judge Arbab Sohail Hamid in Mardan on Saturday.
Imran’s confession was submitted in the form of a statement to the judge.
In his statement, he said when he joined university, he tried to distance himself from Mashal of latter’s secularism and atheism.
On the day of the murder, when he reached university, he too wanted to murder Mashal like the other students in the mob. “I went to my room, took my pistol and went looking for him. I found him running from the mob and shot him,” the statement read.
Imran said university administration was responsible for the murder as if they would have suspended Mashal earlier, because of his views, the situation wouldn’t have led to the murder.
