- Five billion rupees increase in Rangers’ budget
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali on Saturday demanded Sindh government to not make the role of Rangers in Karachi controversial every three months.
Chaudhry Nisar Ali expressed these views while addressing Sindh Rangers’ passing out parade in Karachi.
He said the decision to extend the paramilitary force’s special policing powers in Sindh after every three months should not be created into a dispute.
“The tradition of creating barriers in the extension of Rangers’ powers after every three months must be stopped,” the minister stressed.
Declaring Karachi’s peace crucial, Nisar said that if peace was restored in Karachi the nefarious designs of the enemy would shatter.
He said that a single person had held Karachi hostage before the government was able to drive out criminals from the city.
“One person held the city hostage; if he ordered the city to be set on fire, it was set on fire,” the minister said, referring to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder.
Chaudhry Nisar continued that whole Pakistan will be benefited from peace in Karachi. One person had high jacked its peace back in 2013, but the situation has changed significantly now, he added.
The interior minister said that the Sindh Rangers have rendered unrivalled sacrifices and services to reinstate peace in Karachi for past three years by transcending all political pressures.
The minister remarked that a hard task was assigned to Sindh Rangers in 2013 when they were facing internal as well as external threats.
“We should not forget 33 martyrs who sacrificed their lives for restoring peace,” the interior minister said.
“Whole Pakistan respects Rangers’ efforts for restoring peace in Karachi,” He added.
The minister also extolled performance of police and intelligence agencies, and said they must bring Karachi’s operation to its logical end.
The interior minister said that the Sindh Rangers’ budget has been lifted from Rs7 billion to Rs12 billion.
Nisar said that during the last three and half years Rangers set a new history by successfully accomplishing a very difficult task.
The minister said that Rangers and intelligence agencies played a historic role in the ongoing Karachi operation, adding that agencies also played important role in eliminating extortion from the port city.Some seven hundred and eighty-two Jawans have passed out after completing their training course.

Earlier on Friday, the interior minister visited the headquarters of the Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) in Karachi.
The minister was briefed in detail regarding the performance of the PCG especially for prevention of smuggling and human trafficking through coastal areas as well as safeguarding maritime frontiers.
The minister lauded the role of PCG towards protection of coastal areas and combating smuggling as well as prevention of human trafficking through sea routes.
He also praised the patriotism, sense of duty and commitment of the officers and jawans of the PCG. He paid tributes to those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
Chaudhry Nisar asked the Director General of PCG that in the wake of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the training of the personnel of the PCG should be on the modern lines for the enhancing the technological capabilities.
He also called for devising a strategy in coordination with all the relevant organisations to help achieve objectives of the CPEC in the wake of the growing commercial activities.
The minister praised the role of the incumbent and the past director generals of the PCG for making it a vital force for playing an important role for the discharge of duties.
The minister assured that every step would be taken to help meet the operational needs of the PCG.
