17 bonded labourers set free

NAUDERO: As many as 17 bonded labourers were recovered by the Shikarpur police on the District and Sessions Court’s directions.

They were recovered from a riverine area within Madeji police station jurisdiction which included men, women and their children.

Shikarpur’s Jhabar police station SHO Mumtaz Ali Sandano told media here on Saturday that Menghwar Bheel had submitted an application in the court stating therein that some members of his community have been forced to work in Ketty Samiullah Shah located in the katcha area of Madeji police station which may be recovered.

The SHO further said that following the court’s orders, police of four stations was called which conducted a raid at the requisite place and recovered as many as 17 people, including Sajan, Jumo, Khetoo, Togo, Megi, Akmin, Bhatiyo, Hajra, Amarta, Kameli, Arjun, Takri, Hoori, Reshman, Mano, Ghori, Chando and others.

They all belong to Menghwar community and are residents of Umarkot, Sandano added. He said that all the recovered persons were produced before the court which set all of them free to live wherever they want. Later they all left for their hometown in Tharparkar.
