“He who has a sharp tongue cuts his own throat”
Imran Khan loses control over his tongue whenever annoyed with an individual or an institution. He has called Khursheed Shah “double Shah”, accused Siraj ul Haq of playing on both sides of the wicket. Taking a shot at the insignificance of foreign cricketers, he called them “Phateechar.” Imran Khan landed himself in the dock by criticising Supreme Court for its “shameful role” in the elections his party lost in 2013. More recently he called into question the integrity of the ECP. “The government has planted its men in the ECP and is also planning rigging the 2018 general election,” leading the ECP to reprimand him for the remarks.
It appears Khan is never going to put a full stop before his endless faux pas.
On Tuesday Khan claimed the PML-N government had offered him Rs 10 billion to back off from the Panama case. Asked to tell exactly who had made the offer, he said the proposal came from a close friend of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Dubai two weeks back when the judgment in the Panama Papers case had been reserved but not announced. “They have a history of bribing people [to protect] their illegal businesses and vested interests.” The Rs 10 billion, he said, was just a starter. Had he shown appetite, they could have offered more than that. Pressed to identify the man who had approached his friend with the offer, Khan refused to divulge the name
Several government leaders have denied any offer of the sort. Terming the allegations as highly serious the PPP has reminded the PTI chief that it is his duty to clarify who made the offer and on whose behalf. ANP Chief Isfandyar Wali has advised Khan to share the details of the offer with the public as it will help the JIT which is about to initiate probe into Sharif family’s possessions pointed out in Panama Papers. In case Imran Khan fails to prove the allegation the remarks could land Khan into serious trouble this time.
