54% Pakistanis opine woman can be head of state: Poll

According to a Gilani Research Foundation survey carried out by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, 54 per cent of Pakistanis opine that a capable and popular woman can be the head of state.

A representative sample questioned Pakistanis across the country, “Some people think that according to the Islamic perspective, a woman cannot be the head of state, whereas others think that if a woman is capable and popular then there is nothing wrong in her being the head of the state. What is your opinion?”.

In response to this question, 54 per cent said women can be the head of state, whereas 46 per cent said that women cannot be the head of state.

The study was released by Gilani Research Foundation and carried out by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.

The recent survey was carried out among a total of of 1865 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, from April 03 till April 10, 2017. Error margin is estimated to be ± 2-3 per cent at 95 per cent confidence level.
