After the Supreme Court’s decision in the “Panama Case”, a new debate has ensued over the transparency of the JIT. Most of the political parties have shown their concern over the JIT’s transparent and independent probe. Without offering any criticism on the Court’s decision I think the objections are valid and that there is need for ensuring the transparency in the investigations. No one can trust the government in this regard. The Court needs to ensure the independence of the Joint Committee.
The heads of the institutions referred to by the SC have been hand-picked by the government and they cannot be trusted with an investigation of the PM. This corrupt administration would no doubt influence the members of the joint investigation team.
The Army Chief has assured the transparency by military representatives in the investigations. We do appreciate his assurances but what about the civil representatives? Who would ensure their impartial, independent and transparent working?
In these circumstances we can only hope for the best and leave this matter into the hands of the Superior Being.
