ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday summoned a diplomat of Indian High Commission and handed down a demarche against non issuance of visas for Pakistani squash players set to partake in the Asian Senior’s Individual (Squash) Championship (ASIC) being held in Chennai from today (Wednesday) and would culminate on April 30.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Pakistan holds the title of the Championship being the winner of the last championship. However, Indian denial of visas to Pakistani Squash players reflects that India is hell bent to deprive the Squash lovers of quality sports.
A well placed diplomatic source told Pakistan Today that the Indian diplomat had been informed of Pakistan’s grave concern on the successive Indian bids to deprive Pakistani sportsmen of the opportunity to showcase their skills at the Championship.
However, the official added that Indian High Commission did not issue visas for unknown reasons.
“The Squash Federation was told to wait with no response,” the official said.
“It is unfortunate to note that India has been using these tactics to isolate Pakistani talent. Whether it is Cricket, Hokey, Squash or any other sport, India adopts a selective approach to target Pakistani players,” the official said.
The official added that Pakistani Squash Federation had applied the Indian High Commission for the visas of six member team including four players, one coach and a manager on March 17.
