Around 0.6 million children under five will be administered polio vaccine in a special eight-day anti-polio drive in three high risk districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from April 27, 2017 (Thursday).
Chairing a high-level meeting in this regard, Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Coordinator Akbar Khan informed that the upcoming campaign has been planned in 20 union councils of Hangu district, 47 union councils of Dera Ismail Khan and 33 union councils of Lakki Marwat district.
“Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is fully committed to achieve the ultimate goal to eliminate polio completely from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and it is encouraging that tremendous successes have been achieved in the province due to hard work and dedication of polio workers as well as valuable cooperation by partner organizations, parents, media and other segments of the society”, said Akber Khan.
According to EOC data, total 592971 children under age of five years will be vaccinated both OPV and IPV against polio in these high risk districts of the province. Akbar Khan said that stringent measures have been taken to provide security cover adding that teams have been constituted of trained health workers and are deployed on fixed and transit points to achieve the target.
