Crackdown against decanting in progress: PA told

The Punjab Assembly was told on Wednesday that a crackdown against illegal gas refilling agencies was being carried out in the city.

“Teams have already been activated to raid shops doing decanting business without licences,” said Provincial Minister for Local Government and Community Development Manshaullah Butt during the question-hour. He said the city district government had been directed to take action against owners of these gas filling agencies.

On another question by Dr Aalia Aftab, the minister said teams of the tehsil municipal administrations (TMAs) were in action and removing encroachments from the roads. TMAs were allocating special sites to vendors for smooth traffic, he added.

The minister said the government was utilising all available resources for the welfare of masses. “We have started dozens of projects which will bring about prosperity in the province,” he added.

Replying to a question by PML-Q’s Khadija Omer Farooqi, the minister said no decision had been taken for regularisation of services of 89 employees working as fire brigade staff at the Gujrat Municipal Committee.

Earlier, the third sitting of the 28th session of the current assembly started one hour and 28 minutes behind its schedule with Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal in the chair. The speaker presided over the initial proceedings while the rest sitting was chaired by Deputy Speaker Sardar Sher Ali Gorchani.

Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan laid the Punjab Shehr-e-Khamoshan Authority Ordinance 2017 and the Punjab Boilers and Pressure Vessels (Amendment) Ordinance 2017 before the House which the chair referred to the relevant standing committees.

As the day’s agenda completed, the speaker adjourned the sitting till Thursday morning.
