SC bans illegal cutting of trees in Bani Gala Botanical Gardensp

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Monday has banned illegal cutting of trees and encroachment of land in Bani Gala Botanical Gardens and National Park.

Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Saqib Nisar conducted the hearing of a suo moto case which was attended by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan.

The court ordered a reply from Imran Khan on the report of Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and ordered to not give electricity and gas connections to any building set up within the premises of the Botanical Gardens.

The court has also directed CDA to hold survey on the land reserved for Rawal Dam and provide suggestions regarding improvement in waste management system.

Advocate General told the court that survey regarding delimitation of Botanical Gardens has been done after which Rs 52 million was reserved for constructing wall around 725 acres of land.

CJP also praised for Imran Khan for raising illegal construction issue and said that he has leadership skills and that people admire him and stand with him.

“You are not an ordinary citizen as your voice can either bring betterment or negativity among the nation”, he told Khan.

Subsequently, the court has adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
