The Lahore Police on Saturday arrested four athletes from Railways Stadium chanting “Go Nawaz Go” slogans. The arrested students were among the players who came to attend the Inter-Divisional Athletics Championship here in Lahore.

The detained students, however, were released after Prime Minister took notice of the event.

According to the details, the arrests were made after the speech of Minister of Railways of Pakistan Khawaja Saad Rafique at the concluding ceremony of the sports event. Students started chanting slogans against the Prime Minister when the minister was about to finish his speech. Soon after the minister departed from the stadium, railways police personnel rushed towards the students and arrested them sending them to the Garhi Shahu police station.

Students were released after the Prime Minister notice of the event.

Students claimed that they were beaten up by the police.

Railways spokesman said, in a statement, that students were detained for politicising an apolitical event. He said that participants came to the event to promote sports and not for politics.
