IHC’s acquittal of Hamid Saeed Kazmi, others challenged in SC

The Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) has filed appeal in the Supreme Court (SC) against the Islamabad High Court (IHC) decision on acquittal of former Minister of Religious Affairs Hamid Saeed Kazmi, Director General Hajj Rao Shakeel Ahmad and former Joint Secretary Ministry of Religious Affairs Aftab ul Islam Rao in Hajj corruption case.

In the appeal plea filed in SC on Friday, Director General (DG) FIA had taken the plea that IHC decision was not based on facts. The high court had not reviewed the complete evidence and the decision was taken keeping in view only one side of the case while the prosecution is holding concrete evidence against the accused persons.

The witnesses of the case had recorded evidence directly against the accused Hamid Saeed Kazmi, Rao Shakil Ahmad and Aftabul Islam.

The FIA has prayed the SC to set aside the IHC’s March 20 decision and uphold the punishment awarded by the trial court.
