In order to put pressure on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, after the Panama verdict, a grand opposition alliance is on the card to send him home, Pakistan Today has learnt.
Three main opposition parties which are the main petitioners in the Panama case Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-i-Islami( JI) had already demanded the resignation of the premier. They believed that two judges of the apex court disqualified him which should be enough for a resignation on ‘moral grounds’.
Background discussion with the opposition leaders suggested that a grand alliance is likely to form in the next couple of days to force the prime minister for resignation.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan has announced to hold a protest next Friday of what he has been demanding the resignation of the prime minister.
Imran Khan on Friday again demanded the resignation of the premier and said that under the nose of prime minister Joint Investigation Team JIT cannot be transparent.
According to the sources, PTI chairman believed that grand opposition can play a vital role in the parliament if they collectively demanded the premier’s resignation on Friday in both the houses National Assembly and Senate. According to the sources, PTI chairman has already hinted that he will not take solo-flight this time.
Sources in the PPP said that Asif Ali Zardari also hinted that joint efforts of opposition would bring effective result over the issue of the premier’s resignation.
“This is the ideal time for all opposition to building a consensus over the premier’s resignation,” said PPP leader, who requested anonymity. It was unfortunate that last time the opposition parties failed to reach consensus over the term of reference proposed by the commission which had to investigate the Panama leaks, remarked another PPP leader.
It is noted that Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) and Awami Muslim League (AML) also demanded of the prime minister to resign from his post. President APML Sheikh Rasheed on Friday held a two-hour meeting with JI Chief Sirajul Haq at Laal Haveli. During the meeting, it was decided that joint efforts would be adopted for the premier resignation.
Spokesperson Naeemul Haque claimed that party has yet to decide for a grand alliance; but in the Parliament, joint efforts will continue to send prime minister at home.
information PPP Punjab, Mustafa Nawaz Khokar, said that party has yet to decide whether a grand alliance should be made or not. “We need to see the composition of JIT then a future plan of action would be adopted, he added.
