KARACHI: Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) measurements and their awareness is very important for workers and other stakeholders of ports and terminals to avoid any untoward incident at the workplace, experts agreed in a seminar on EHS.
A session regarding EHS was held by Al-Rahim Group at their newly renovated facility named Al Noor Terminal in collaboration with SGS. This session was meant for the concerned staff of Al-Rahim Group but people from Keamari Oil Installation area were also invited and the event was well attended.
Faraz Ahmed, EHS specialist from the Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) Pakistan’s Safety Department gave a detailed presentation on issues and precautions related to Environment, Health and Safety. The session was well attended by the business community, clients, dignitaries and concerned officials from the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Marine Pollution and Control Department and Customs along with the port fire officer, and port traffic in-Charge.
Al-Rahim Trading Company (Pvt) is running four terminals at Keamari Oil Installation area, which are; Al-Rahim Terminal, Al-Hamd Bulk Storage and two other namely Al-Rahim Tank Terminals.
The session was well attended and was followed by question and answers session from participants and was promptly and precisely replied by Faraz Ahmed from SGS. After question and answer session, the participants and guests visited the newly commissioned terminal and then proceeded towards lunch.
Al-Rahim Group’s Engineering Department organised the event and their efforts were applauded by Al Rahim Group Chairman Haji Haroon Kapadia and also by Anas Kapadia.
Anas Kapadia, while expressing his views, said that these type of events are essential for liquid storage industry and should take place at frequent intervals. He further said that for this industry even a very minor error can prove to be fatal and EHS measures and precautions must be adhered to.
Haji Haroon Kapadia distributed certificates among the participants of the session and also gave away cash awards to employees of the company.
