District Nazim Himayatullah Mayar distributed Rs 18 million among 245 students who took top positions in matric and FA, FSc examinations of 2016.
Addressing the function held at Executive Services Club Mardan, Himayat Mayar pledged to continue working for the welfare of the people. “The state has a responsibility to provide education to all children,” Himayat said. He said it was for the first time in KPK to present awards to the students of government schools.
He said recognising the achievements of top students was a revolution in its own right. He said the district government has allocated 20 per cent budget for education in Annual Development Programme.
He said that the district government has allocated Rs 5 lac for needy students of each union council and they would also give scholarships to grade five and eight students.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Shiekh, Assistant Commissioner Khan Muhammad, Public Accounts Committee Chairman Amanat Shah Haqani, All Private School Management Association President Naseer Afridi, heads of several educational institutions and members of district council were also present on the occasion.
