Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal congratulated the newly elected committee of Punjab Assembly Press Gallery on winning the elections unopposed on Tuesday.
According to the details, senior journalists Zaheer Shehzad and Ayaz Shuja became the president and general secretary, respectively for the year 2017-2018.
Senior journalist and Election Commissioner Hamid Riaz Dogar announced the results of elections held in the cafeteria of Punjab Assembly in which a large number of press gallery members participated.
In a statement, Speaker Rana Iqbal said that newly elected office bearers of the press gallery will play an effective role in letting people know regarding the proceedings and legislation of the assembly. “The sacrifices rendered by the journalists for the restoration of democracy and judiciary are commendable,” the speaker observed.
The newly elected office-bearers vowed to protect the rights of journalists at any cost and said that they will act as a bridge between the parliamentarians and journalists. The services of outgoing President Qamar Bhatti and General Secretary Ali Akbar were also lauded by the members of the committee.
