“No blasphemous content found on Mashal Khan’s social media,” says IG KP

Inspector General Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Monday said “there was no blasphemous content uploaded on Mashal Khan’s social media pages prior to his lynching,” while addressing media.

He added there’s no concrete evidence, that the student had committed any blasphemy . He also said that another student Abdullah had recorded his statement before the police. He further added, Mashal Khan was killed before being given a chance to defend himself.

An inquiry had been initiated by the university administration prior to Mashal’s murder. The IG, however reserved his comments on the political affiliations of those involved in the murder.

Refuting allegations that police did not intervene in the matter, “During terror incidents in Mardan several months ago, police and university administration had decided that the university will hire private security guards for security. In this case, we were informed only after the dispute started and when Mashal was being dragged out of his hostel room.”

According to Salahuddin, deputy superintendent police Haider Khan put his life in danger and took Mashal’s body out of the mob’s possession.

Addressing the media, the K-P IG said police has sought help from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to progress in the investigation.
