Punjab Emergency Services (Rescue 1122) Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer reviewed the performance of Rescue 1122’s ‘Go Green Tree Plantation Campaign’ here on Sunday. The campaign is being carried out by through the Rescue Mohafiz volunteers’ corps to establish healthy and environmental friendly communities in Punjab to contribute to the Prime Minister’s Green Pakistan Program which is aiming to plant 100 million tree across the country, including 14 million trees in Punjab.
According to Head of Community Safety and Information Deeba Shahnaz, Rescue 1122 has planted 70,000 trees throughout Punjab with the active participation of district emergency officers in collaboration with the community emergency response teams of their respective districts to make all areas in and around rescue stations clean and green by planting trees inside and outside their operational offices.
The data shows that out of the 70,000 plants, 3,000 were planted in Attock, 120 in Bahawalnagar, 5,000 in Chakwal, 600 in Chiniot, 8,194 in Dera Ghazi Khan, 955 in Faisalabad, 350 in Gujranwala, 750 in Gujrat, 150 in Hafizabad, 350 in Sahiwal, 7,939 in Sargodha, 700 in Sheikhupura, 800 in Sialkot, 1,745 in Vehari, 2,470 in Jhelum, 400 in Kasur, 4,550 in Khanewal, 114 in Khushab, 911 in Lahore, 25 in Layyah, 400 in Lodhran, 350 in Mandi Bahauddin, 1,023 in Multan, 10,700 in Muzaffargarh, 155 in Nankana Sahib, 2,000 in Okara, 10,500 in Rahim Yar Khan, 390 in Rajanpur, and 5,110 in Rawalpindi.
In Rawalpindi, the plants were planted through station coordinators and rescue mohafiz of District Rawalpindi at all rescue stations situated in Rawapindi, Texila, Kallar Syedan and Gujjjar Khan. Furthermore, public awareness sessions have also arranged to sensitize the public for Go Green Pakistan.
Rescue 1122 DG Rizwan Naseer said that trees are essential and considered a sign of life, while Rescue workers also save lives. He highlighted the importance of green vegetation, saying that it plays an important role in enabling human beings to live a healthy life on Earth. Therefore, tree plantation is the need of the hour and the unprecedented contribution of trees in fighting detrimental impacts of climate change, such as floods, land erosion, and land destabilization cannot be ignored, he said.
The director general also appreciated the officers, staff, cadets, and volunteers for their valuable contributions to the healthy and environment friendly campaign. He also directed all district emergency officers and volunteers to continue the campaign till the 22nd World Earth Day and celebrate it to create awareness among the masses.
