Intense heatwave continues in Larkana district

LARKANA: Larkana and its suburbs remained in the grip of severe heat on Saturday, forcing the majority of people to remain indoors.

The local Met Office recorded 47-degree centigrade as a maximum temperature and minimum 30-degree centigrade on Saturday.

The severe heat has affected the daily business activities adversely and the prices of ice and cold drinks have soared tremendously.

The weather severity has also increased incidents of sunstroke, sunburn which forced them to rush to public and private hospitals for treatment.

Frequent and prolonged power outages along with water shortage made life further miserable for the residents.

Meanwhile, Larkana Commissioner Abbas Baloch presided over a meeting here on Saturday.

The commissioner directed the officials concerned to take measures for preventing masses from heat stroke.

He said that on the special directives of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, heat stroke centres will be established in all the Basic health Units of the Larkana Division.

He directed the deputy commissioners of all the districts to monitor the heat stroke centres. He asked them to ensure these centres to be functional at all the taluka hospitals and BHUs.

The commissioner asked the officials to carry out an awareness campaign to educate the people on precautionary measures.
