Islamabad High Court (IHC) has declared the appointment of Dr Muhammad Aslam as Drug Regulatory Authority Pakistan (DRAP) CEO as illegal and ordered the government to appoint new CEO within the next 45 days.
IHC’s Justice Athar Minallah took up for hearing the petition filed against the appointment of Muhammad Aslam as DRAP CEO Friday.
The petitioner Mirza Abdul Rehman took the plea in his petition that several rules and regulations have been violated in the induction of Muhammad Aslam as the CEO of DRAP. Under section 18 of DRAP act, such person cannot be appointed as the CEO or director if their financial or professional interests clash. Dr Aslam was a shareholder of a pharmaceutical company when he was appointed as DRAP CEO.
IHC, while declaring the appointment of Dr Aslam as illegal, and a violation of Supreme Court decision, ordered the federal government to appoint new CEO within 45 days.
