Karachi: WWF-Pakistan’s Nature Carnival 2017, now in its 18th year as a major event, brings together environmental awareness, protection and conservation on a single platform. The one-day event will be open for families on Sunday, April 16 at Maritime Museum, Karsaz, Karachi. Over the years, the carnival has garnered a growing reputation and attendance for bringing forth environmental causes in the form of the thematic art competition, environment quiz competition and 3D model competition.
This year, around 120 schools, colleges and universities will set up stalls to showcase their models highlighting the need to embrace sustainable solutions for Pakistan’s environmental problems. The carnival is expected to mobilise residents and businesses alike and have them adopt green behaviours to affect positive environmental changes.
WWF-Pakistan Head of Communications and Marketing Asma Ezdi says that the success of the carnival over the years has been a result of the support from educational institutes and corporate partners— in the form of participation and sponsorship. “At WWF-Pakistan, sustainability is at the heart of our strategy and operations. We recognise the twin benefits of environmentally-friendly practices on both the environment and the economy,” she said. Speaking on the social benefits of the Nature Carnival she added, “The Nature Carnival’s themes are bound to be instructional and visitors tend to learn from it. This isn’t just learning— this is hands-on, experiential learning offered in a fun context of a festival.”
The event, sponsored by English Biscuit Manufactures, Pakistan, and co-sponsored by Tetra Pak, Pakistan, is expecting an average of 25 thousands visitors on Sunday. The Nature Carnival celebrations will kick off at 9:00 am and is expected to conclude at 7:00 pm in the evening with live music performances.
