Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif hosted a farewell dinner in the honor or former Punjab Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera here on Wednesday.
Paying tributes to the former IG on his excellent services to the provincial police department, the chief minister said that Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera had performed his duties in a professional and respectable manner and that his career had been outstanding.
The chief minister said that the ex-IGP had performed his duties proficiently even in difficult circumstances. He also credited Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera for the improvement brought about the police department through the use of information technology. The performance of Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera in connection with the training of the police force was appreciable and he played a key role in the constitution of the counter-terrorism force, he said.
Shehbaz Sharif said that the former IG had remained at the forefront of promoting merit in the police. He said that a lot of work had been carried out during Sukhera’s tenure for making the police a modern force. However, there is still a lot to do in the police department to come up to the expectations of the public, he added.
Expressing his views on the occasion, Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera said that Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif had extended full cooperation to the police at every level. It was not easy to work with “Shehbaz Speed”, he added. The former IG said that he had worked hard with full determination for the protection of life and property of the people and made his utmost efforts for improving the law and order situation in the province.
He said that the Punjab government had always made appointments based on merit in the police. He said that the grand package given by the government for police martyrs was unprecedented. Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera said that the government had provided all the resources requested by the Punjab Police for the performance of its duties.
The chief minister also presented a souvenir to the former Punjab IGP.
Provincial Ministers Rana Sanaullah, Zaeem Hussain Qadri, and Ayub Gadhi, Special Assistant Malik Ahmed Khan, Advisor Rana Maqbool Ahmed, the chief secretary, home department additional chief secretary, former IGs Tariq Saleem Doger and Nasir Khan Durrani, and senior civil and police officers also attended the dinner.
