Wheat growers have been advised to arrange threshers, tractors, combined harvesters and workers on time for proper crop management.
According to Punjab Agriculture Department sources on Wednesday, farmers were stressed to keep an eye on weather predictions during the crop harvest period.
Wheat should not be harvested during rain and should only continue after the weather returns to normal, the department advised.
The wheat procurement policy 2017-18 was approved some days ago in a provincial cabinet meeting.
The target of purchasing 4 million metric ton wheat was set at the rate of Rs 1,300 per 40kg, with the distribution of gunny bags to start from April 15. The wheat procurement target might be enhanced if needed, the government said.
The chief minister of Punjab directed officials to provide all possible facilities to farmers at wheat procurement centers throughout the province and added that farmers’ rights would be protected at all cost.
