HYDERABAD: The district administration has decided to launch a four-day Polio Eradication Campaign from April 17 to 20, with the objective to make a consistent effort to root out polio from Hyderabad district.
Under the programme, polio drops will be administered to 328,542 children of less than five years of age, said Hyderabad Polio Campaign Focal Person Dr Masood Jafri while talking to APP here on Wednesday.
In view of the emergence of new polio cases, Dr Masood Jafri said the district administration has decided to launch an anti- polio campaign besides, the usual National Polio Eradication Campaign.
He informed that anti-polio drops will be administered to under-age children in 94 health facilities where fixed vaccination centres have already been functioning.
The district administration has also selected 879 transit points, including the internal and external routes of Hyderabad as well as the railway station and bus terminals, where anti-polio drops will be administered to the children, he added.
He informed that seven zonal coordinators will monitor the entire polio campaign and ensure the vaccination of all targeted children in the district.
Dr Masood Jafri also urged the parents to be cooperative with the mobile polio teams to make the national anti-polio campaign successful.
He also urged the religious scholars, elected representatives, NGOs, and local community to help make the campaign successful.
