KARACHI: Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair in a meeting with a 12-member delegation of Pakistan – Romania Business Council in Karachi on Tuesday hailed their interest in joining the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
Talking to the delegation that called on him at the Governor House, he said an increasing level of bilateral trade between the two countries was a positive development that could be further bolstered through CPEC.
“It is heartening to note that bilateral trade volume between Pakistan and Romania has reached to $300 billion as it reflects confidence mutually enjoyed by the two countries,” said the Sindh governor.
Economic ties between the two countries, matters of mutual interest and investment opportunities in the province, with an equal attention to the measures for the further improvement, were extensively discussed on the occasion.
The Sindh governor said that law and order situation, proper planning and economic policies were crucial to attract foreign investment, however, the geographical position of Karachi has further added to its value for local as well as foreign investors.
“The government is paying extra attention towards security situation in Karachi and consequently it has emerged as an ideal destiny for investors,” reiterated the governor.
In reply to a question by a delegate, he said the completion of CPEC will open fresh vista of development and progress for not only Pakistan but for the entire South Asia and other neighbouring regions.
“In the current era of shrinking distances entire world can be a beneficiary”, said the governor.
“China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is actually a game changer for the region as well for the world in general,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Sindh governor also held a meeting with a delegation of ‘I am Karachi’— a non-governmental organisation led by Amin Hashwani— at the Governor House.
Zubair, while talking to the delegation, said that everyone has to play its part to place Karachi on the list of developed cities of the world.
He said, “It is our responsibility to give back its lost status to the metropolis.”
Zubair said that “we will have to clean walls of the city and that is our recognition”.
Zubair, while talking about the investment opportunities in the City, said that after the restoration of law and order situation it has turned as an attractive place for foreign investors.
The economic, social and cultural activities were now on rise in the city, he added.
During the meeting the delegation informed the governor regarding the NGO’s work, its purpose, cleaning of walls of the city, and its role in creating a good image of Karachi in the world, teaching children of marginalised areas and training them in different skills and other matters.
