The Dispute Resolution Council has resolved 1330 disputes of different natures in one and a half year.
DRC Registrar Ihsan Bacha told Pakistan Today that the council consisted of thirty members including professionals, retired judges, retired civil, military officers, educationists, religious scholars, journalists and businessmen.
Members of DRC worked voluntarily and the jury consisted of five members and they worked for six days in a week. “People are tired of police station and court system’, he added. He said that people now preferred to take their cases to the councils, where they reached resolution within two to three hearings.
He shared the data that within one and a half year they received fourteen hundred and Ninety two cases in which thirteen hundred and thirty cases were resolved and the rest would be resolved soon. He added this showed the trust of people in these bodies. He said the natures of cases were land property disputes, disputes between husband and wives and borrowed money disputes. He said that when DRC decided any case then the cases would forward to concerned district police officer for implementation.
Headquarters DSP Ikhteraz Khan said that the concept behind DRC was to help resolve petty disputes through free and speedy procedure. He added, ‘We need participants from women to volunteer as DRC jury member since they could easily relate to the women’s issues’.
