STOCKHOLM: Rakhmat Akilov, the main suspect in the deadly truck attack in Stockholm that killed four and injured a further 15, has admitted to committing a “terrorist crime”, his lawyer said in a court hearing on Tuesday.
“His position is that he admits to a terrorist crime and accepts therefore that he will be detained,” Johan Eriksson the lawyer representing the 39-year-old Uzbek said in a court hearing to decide whether he should be kept in custody.
At least four people were killed when a truck drove into a crowd on a shopping street and crashed into a department store in central Stockholm, police said.
Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said the country has been attacked and that everything indicated that the truck driven into a crowd in central Stockholm was an “act of terrorism”, national news agency TT reported.
