European Union (EU) Delegation to Pakistan’s Head of Cooperation Bernard Francois visited the head office of ht Punjab Overseas Pakistanis Commission (OPC) and held talks with Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti here on Tuesday.
The purpose of the meeting was to share information about the EU program aimed at strengthening the reintegration mechanism for Pakistani returnees and to gain updated information about the initiatives of the OPC for the welfare of expatriate Pakistanis.
OPC Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti informed Francois that the innovative step of establishing the OPC had been taken to secure the rights of Pakistanis living abroad. Since its inception, the OPC has performed exceptionally for the resolution of complaints of overseas Pakistanis and 50% of the issues have been resolved amicably, he said. Afzaal Bhatti told the visiting delegate that the OPC and EU can work together in management of migration issues and to provide assistance to migrants.
Speaking on the occasion, Bernard Francois said that it was encouraging that Punjab had established a dedicated institution for the welfare of expatriates.
OPC Administration Director Asad Naeem and Legal Director Raja Zubair were also attended the meeting.
