Provincial Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development Asif Saeed Minhais has said that the Punjab Halal Development Agency (PHDA) was a massive step towards developing and helping Pakistan’s halal food production enter the global halal market while also meeting local demand.

The minister was speaking at the 6th International Halal Conference and Exhibition 2017.

The minister said that the global halal market was worth $2 trillion of which $700 billion was traded within the Muslim world. Today, the leading countries exporting halal goods are non-Muslims, such as Brazil, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Thailand and India. Pakistan takes only a minor share of the huge export potential owing to a lack of legal and recognized authority at the national level dealing with the sector.

Asif Saeed said that the international conference of the PHDA provide a platform to the producers, manufacturers, and traders of halal food and processors to establish B2B linkages. He said that the platform will thus be helpful to demonstrate the potential of Pakistan among the international halal food consuming and trading community, resulting in increasing exports of Pakistani products.
