A meeting of the special committee constituted to formulate an action plan to prevent road accidents was held here on Monday at the Civil Secretariat.
Punjab Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) and co-convener of the committee ACS Shamail Ahmad Khawaja and other members of the committee noted that rash and negligent driving, mechanical faults in the old vehicles, road design issues, lack of traffic sense, and fake fitness certifications from other provinces were the main factors behind fatal traffic accidents.
The committee recommended an action plan which comprises enactment of the Punjab Road Safety Authority Act within the next two months, which was established through an executive order. This enactment will empower the traffic police and the traffic engineering staff to modernize driver training, testing, and licensing system, besides improving road design.
