After the lapse of two days, the police have been unable to arrest or trace any of the accused in Rangpura torture case.
According to details, Chanda used to sell shami kababs on a push cart near Ruby Sweets Shop in Rangpura. Later he bought a shop from Fazil Butt, owner of Ruby Sweets, on installments and started his kabab business there. During the period, he paid Rs 7 million to Fazil. The owner of Ruby Sweets kept receiving money but did not hand over the shop registry to Chanda. Chanda asked him many times for the registry but he used delaying tactics.
Moreover, he tried to indict him in fake police cases. Later, Fazil Butt sold the same shop to another party for Rs 1 million and occupied the shop. Chanda tried to stop him but nothing happened. He went to the police but all in vain.
On the day of incident, Chanda reached the Ruby Sweets and opened fire at the people present over there. As a result of which Ijaz Butt, brother-in-law of Fazil Butt, was killed on the spot and five passers-by were also injured. Later, the owner and employees of the Ruby Sweets overpowered Chanda and tied him to a pole and started beating him. They beat him up so severely that so many bones of his back bone were broken while he also received fatal head injury after a man used iron rod. Chanda fainted and the accused escaped from the scene.
The whole episode continued for about 40 minutes but the police did not reach the spot while the Rangpura Police Station is on a walking distance from the site of incident.
Later, the people shifted Chanda to a local hospital with the help of Recue 1122. Due to his critical condition, he was referred to a Lahore hospital where he is in critical condition. After hearing the news, Chanda’s wife, who is 8 months pregnant, suffered a shock and lost consciousness. She is also in precarious condition.
A case was registered by the local police against ten alleged and five unknown criminals in Rangpura police station, while another case was also registered against Chanda for murder.
