It seems Pakistan has become a land of rumours and the most disturbing trend is that highly educated people are most active in it. In last two weeks, I have so far received ten or twelve versions of the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Panama leaks. These rumours should not be taken lightly as they damage the credibility of our institutions and create confusion in the mind of people about what to believe or not believe.
It is our responsibility to stop a rumour when we receive it rather than forwarding it by just labelling it “forwarding as received”. By sending it out, we are endorsing it and should be held responsible for it.
PEMRA and other state institutions should take serious actions against such will full rumour mongering on regulated media. I understand that it is not possible to control social media but we can’t allow such thing to become a norm on professional media.
