Traffic in Karachi – worsened by prolonged construction projects

The citizens of Karachi are suffering due to the prolonged construction on University Road. The main road that connects NIPA to Hassan Square has been under construction for the last two months. This depicts the careless behaviour of the authorities concerned. There has been no proper planning to provide alternative routes to the commuters. Both the main road and service road have been demolished, and the traffic passes through the bulldozed roads which causes accidents.

Travelling on this road is nightmare for us. This road already has a very high flow of traffic and now it has become too difficult for us (students) and others to reach their destination on time. It now takes almost 30 minutes to reach from Hassan Square to NIPA.

The situation has been worsened by other different under-construction projects in the city.

The area becomes congested during the peak time and we cannot even go through the service road as half of the road is already blocked with illegal parking outside the shops, banks etc. There is also no traffic police available on these roads to control the traffic.

The government fails to provide temporary route and it shows the lack of planning. Authorities should keep in mind that if they cannot do anything better than they should at least stop making things worse for the citizens.

I request to the authorities concerned to take possible actions to provide alternate route to the people.
