The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday extended its stay on the removal of AD Khawaja as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh.

Rejecting the Advocate General’s (AG) request to dismiss the stay order, the court ordered Khawaja will continue to serve as the IGP Sindh till the final verdict is announced.

The AG brought the matter of the Sindh Cabinet’s (SC) decision to dismiss Khawaja to the court’s attention.

The court ordered the AG and Additional Attorney to present their arguments in the next hearing, which was postponed until April 11.

A day earlier, the Sindh Cabinet had said it would back the decision to ‘surrender’ A.D. Khawaja’s services to the federal government.

During the cabinet meeting, chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the appointment of Additional IG Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti as Khawaja’s replacement as provincial police chief was also approved.

The Sindh High Court had earlier this week suspended a notification issued by the Sindh government on April 1 for Khawaja’s removal.

The SHC had also suspended Dasti’s ‘promotion’ as acting IGP as well.
